Charity ball 2010 |
On Saturday 13 November 2010, BKLT held its Charity Ball at Camden Centre, London as part of its wider programme of lupus awareness and to fund raise for a hospital project in Ghana. The event was attended by about 300 guests including several dignataries; Mayor of Brent, Councillor Harbadash Singh, representatives of High Commissioners and Medical Architects and Arts Projects (MAAP) leading professors and doctors in the field of lupus research and was chaired by Dr Joe Dako (retired consultant). After welcoming the invited guests, Dr Dako gave a rousing opening speech which was followed by a speech by Professor Tim Vyse a leading researcher at Guy's Hospital, London who have a lucid insight into lupus. This was followed by a presentation by Messrs Christopher Shaw and Bob Willis of MAAP on the proposed Barbara Kwateng Children's Hospital project in Juabeng, Ashanti, Ghana. Representatives of Juabeng Stool also took to the centre stage to express compliments on behalf of Nana Otuo Siribuo for the proposed hospital project. The event raised a total amount including ticket and raffle sales of approximately £12,650. The Trustees have since sent a sum of £1,800 to Professor Vyse, a leading researcher at Guy's Hospital for lupus research.
